$165 Million Lawsuit Demand Over Fly Ash Spill in Tennessee

(Roane County, TN 12/31/2008) A lawsuit against the Tennessee Valley Authority was filed by developer Jot Raymond and his wife Brenda whom were among the property owners of the North Lake Estates development. They claim that the spill has caused two home sales to fall through and the development has been damaged and is delayed as a result.
The fly ash spill occurred when a retention wall holding back 80 acres of sludge from the TVA’s Kingston Fossil Plant in central Tennessee ruptured. The exact cause of the accident at the moment is not known and is under investigation.
The fly ash spill is said to have damaged 15 homes and all of the affected residents were evacuated. All most all of the home but three were deemed uninhabitable and residents affected were warned not to drink the water as some of the private wells were found to contain high levels of arsenic.
