Mississippi Sees Fewer Traffic Fatalities During Holiday Season

(Hinds County, MS 1/3/2009) Chief Deputy Steve Pickett of the Hinds County Sheriffs department stated that there were no driving fatalities in Hinds County unlike during the Christmas holiday where 2 motorists were killed.

The Hinds County Sheriff's Department will continue to perform road blocks for the next week. Over the New Year's holiday the Hinds County Sheriffs Department had issued 9 DUI citations and approximately 100 other driver-related citations.

The number of DUI and other citations seems to be down this year due to the educatiional advertisement on both radio and television.

Mississippi has reported 11 drinking and driving fatalities for the holiday season.
